Product Description

Designed to produce Whiskey made from a Malt wash. When we make traditional Whisky we would do an All Grain Brew and boil this for up to 8 hours to extract all the flavour and sugars. This would then be fermented in a bucket for about 7 days. We would then distil this to produce our Whiskey.

With this kit we realise they is a large time element and lots of equipment needed to do an All Grain Brew so we done this part for you. This is then concentrated so you now have just malt extract in a bag.

Take this, add some water and 5 kilos of Dextrose. Add the Whiskey Distillers Yeast and off goes the fermentation. When this is finished add the Turbo Clear and place the clear liquid in the Alembic Still with the Anti Foam Sachet. Get boiling. Collect the alcohol and add the oak chips to produce a lovely tasting Whiskey.

Pack Includes:

  • 3kg (6.6lb) Premium Single Malt Whiskey Substrate (malt extract)
  • 130g (4.6oz) Still Spirits Turbo Clear
  • 72g (2.5oz) Whiskey Distiller's Yeast
  • 15g (0.5oz) American Heavy Toasted Oak Chips
  • 5g (0.2oz) Antifoam

Makes: 3.5-4.2L of 40% ABV*

*Tasting notes and yield may vary according to ageing time, fermentation and cuts.

Note: Flavours will be stripped if this product is used with the T500 fitted with a copper/stainless steel column condenser. However, it is possible to add the dome and condenser which fits the T500 boiler. This will also allow you to produce some fine spirits using natural botanical flavours. See 'Related Products' for more details.

Great results and works fine on an AirstillReview by BoozyRich
As previous reviews, this works well. Easy to ferment (much easier than beer), strip run and then spirit run. I found it quite difficult to identify the cuts between heads hearts and tails, but that's probably because I have no experience of cutting anything other than neutral spirit: that will come in time.

I let it condition for about a month on the oak chips: I agree with previous reviews, they are dusty. I ran the spirit through a coffee filter paper and that seemed to help.

My end result was also a bit on the pale side; that's ok but I like a darker whisky so I threw in some of the still spirits bourbon chips.

The malt isn't peaty so if you favour a highland you might want to add in some flavour additions - I used about 9ml of Peat Smoke per 750ml bottle which definitely gave it a lift.

I used an Airstill which for some reason people seem to think it a no-no. I ran the idea past several experienced distillers and they could see no problem using the Airstill, and I didn't experience any - except that the yield won't be as high (no problem).

Highly recommended unless you're able to do an all grain mash, which I'm planning to try next (hopefully on the Alembic if possible).

Love itReview by Tony
Thought I would try this to save all the work boiling up etc and pleasantly surprised with the fermentation, did the stripping run then the second run with the first jar coming off at nearly 90%,well pleased and managed to retrieve plenty more product than expected,
I agree that the chips are very dusty but will know next time, the end product is excellent
after cleaning it and will definitely use again,I use a pot still (hillbilly stills 13gallon)which seems to suit ,

Spot on product.Review by Beverley hillbilly
Love this kit its been fun using it , would recommend it to anybody thinking of buying it.i ran it through my little pot still and had to do 5 separate runs so I've bought an elembic spout for my t500. Also I'd like to say i like the clear whiskey before its oaked you should try it especially if you like the taste of seems that making your own alcohol is like the difference between buying ready meals or eating in a good restaurant.i can't get the taste of malt out of my head love it.p.s.when are you opening a shop in east yorkshire. Roll out the Barrel (674)!Review by Howard
Thought i'd give this kit a try as I love a drop of single malt!
Nicely boxed product containing the whiskey substrate, whiskey yeast, turbo clear, distilling conditioner and a packet of heavy toasted oak chips. Nice clear instruction leaflet.(note that you need to buy and add 5kg of dextrose to your wash when making it up) keep an eye on the start temperature of your wash also and adjust it as needed - i found mine was going to be quite low to start the yeast despite following the instructions - adjusted mine to 22c and had a very successful fermentation.
Thank you to the previous reviewer regarding the oak chips - these are very small chippings and do contain a fair bit of dust - i washed these through a sieve prior to adding them to the distilled product. After a double distill through my alembic, and some nice cuts on the second run, I produced a lovely tasting whiskey. It had some lovely flavours in the early and mid tails and blended some of these these to suit my taste. I ended up with 4.4 litres of 43% which I was most pleased with. I oaked the whiskey for 10 days before emptying the demijohn through a sieve to collected the oak chips. I then filtered the whiskey through a couple of coffee filters, which did remove some very fine dust. The flavours are great and I can certainly taste vanilla and honey coming through the finished product. This is a great kit - well done Love Brewing for stocking it! (Posted on 06/12/2016)
Good qualityReview by Erik
My first whiskey experiment was with this kit. Fermentation went well, nice smell. Did a double distillation and blended it to a good tasting whiskey. When adding the oak chips I was unhappily surprised because it became very hazy. I think the oak chips first have to be rinsed and this should be in the guide lines! There is a lot of dust in the sachet.
On advise of Love Brewing I filtered it with a Vinbrite filter and it became crystal clear.
Now it is resting in a 5 liter oak barrel for a week. I tasted a bit and it is absolutely delicious. End result approximately 4.5 liter of 45% ABV (Posted on 30/08/2016)

Scottish Highlands & Islands

Regrettably we are forced to pass on part or all of the courier charges for some parts of Scotland and the Isles.

This is due to the way the couriers structure their networks and is unavoidable. Whilst larger retailers such as Amazon may offer flat rate shipping nationwide due to economies of scale, we are unable to do so.

We prefer to remain transparent with regards to shipping costs and endeavour to offer the best possible rates in these cases.

Our aim is to send out the same day all orders received by 9am. Sometimes due to a heavy influx of orders (especially over weekends) we may need an extra day to do this. Orders will be dispatched such that you should receive them the next working day by courier (excluding Saturday and Sunday) or by 1st class post (this is not a guarantee, as no UK parcel carrier offers a 100% guarantee on their service). On the rare occasions where we may be let down, or if there is a problem with the order we will notify you.

Delivery Times

In most cases, Mainland UK delivery is by a 24 hour, next working day service on DPD or TNT. Orders to areas excluded from our free shipping offer may be on 48+ hour courier services due to logistical issues beyond our control. Small items are sent by Royal Mail 1st Class post untracked. These items are usually delivered within 24 hours, but this can vary (anywhere up to 10 working days), and is unfortunately beyond our control.
