What do I need to make spirits & liqueurs at home?
The still does the hard work of taking your wash (around 14% ABV) and distilling this to produce a spirit ready for drinking. Whatever your budget or interest, we have the still for you.
All of our starter bundles include the necessary pieces of equipment to help you make your spirits & liqueurs, from initial fermentation to filtration and flavouring.
Our bundles include various yeasts (along with carbon and finings) which produce your wash (distilled to spirit). Depending on your choice we also include flavourings to make a range of finished spirits.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it legal?
It is illegal to manufacture spirits in the UK without a distiller's licence which is required under the provisions of section 12 of the Alcoholic Liquor Duties Act 1979 and this includes manufacture for "own/domestic use".
Public Notice 39 - "Spirits production in the UK" dated July 2006 provides further information about HM Revenue & Customs' requirements.
If you require further assistance then please contact the National Advice Service on Telephone 0845 010 9000 or www.hmrc.gov.uk Where you can obtain & view Public Notice 39.

Do I need a still to make spirits & liqueurs?
Yes, you do need a still in order to distil the wash and produce a spirit base.
However, you can use the entire Still Spirits range of flavourings with shop-bought vodka, removing the need for the distillation process, although obviously this works out to be rather more costly.
What kind of still do I need?
For beginners, we would recommend the Air Still. This is a 'plug & play' still with no controls to monitor. You don't need to have any experience of distilling or home brewing to enjoy using the Air Still!
The Spiritworks Boiler and Alembic are both very easy to use but do require constant monitoring to ensure correct operation and quality of output. We recommend these to customers with some existing home brewing experience. You will need to use a Spiritworks Boiler or Alembic still if you want to make spirits using your own ingredients.
Do I need to use the Still Spirits yeasts & flavourings?
The Air Still should only be used with Pure Turbo Yeast, Carbon & Clear. It is designed primarily for use with the Still Spirits range of flavourings although it can also be used for making your own Gin using raw botanicals.
If you want to use other yeasts (such as the distilers range) and make spirits from your own raw ingredients, you will need a Spiritworks Boiler or Alembic still.
How long does it take to make the spirits and liqueurs?
The initial process of creating a wash to distil is the same as fermenting a beer or wine and takes around a week.
When distilling we would allow a good few hours, so a day when you can monitor the still closely is ideal as it should not be left unattended.
Flavouring your finished spirit takes only minutes, and it is ready to enjoy immediately.
All in all, you could be enjoying your finished spirits & liqueurs in around 7-9 days.
What does it taste like?
When using the supplied Still Spirits yeasts and flavourings, many of our customers are unable to tell the difference between the home-made spirit or liqueur and its commercial equivalent!
Try it for yourself, you won't be disappointed!
What do I do with the equipment afterwards?
Clean it and keep it ready for next time! All of the equipment is reusable. You will need to purchase additional steriliser when you run out as cleanliness is essential for successful fermentation.
