Meet the Team

Here's a little info on some of our dedicated team at love Brewing.

Richard Blackwell

Richard has been at the helm of the Company for more years than he cares to remember. Homebrew has been very much his working life and the amount of products out there he has developed or introduced is amazing. Beaverdale Solomon Grundy Prohibition Selection Vintners Reserve World Vineyard Samsons Beers Wineworks Beerworks Ciderworks and all the Still Spirits range of flavouring yeast and equipment. That’s just to name a few.

Specialist subject is wine and now Spirit Distillation. He’s OK on beer as you would expect but only makes it now for samples in the showrooms and new styles.

Two children (Nina his daughter is doing the companies social media -Rich says he’s too old for that sort of thing but don’t believe him) and a few Grandchildren.

Richard also hosts a series of guides to brewing, on our YouTube channel which have proven very popular - over 1.2 million views.

Darren Byrne

General Manager

I’ve been in a few management positions before but I can honestly say being the GM of Love Brewing is a dream job. Having worked in bars from an early age from here in the UK , where I predominately worked as a Bar manager, I have also worked in locations such as Netherlands – Amsterdam, Portugal – Vila mora and a full Year in New York - USA. I have always enjoyed working with alcohol and from an early age of when my grandad and dad brewed at home I took an interest in the home brew scene.

After leaving university in March 2004 I took up a roll as an operations manager at a company where I stayed for 13 years. During the last 2 years of my role as operations as I was aware of a Job for GM at love brewing and held very positive talks with Richard Blackwell the MD of love brewing and whilst it was my dream job, the timing of the job just wasn’t quite right for me, fast forward to October 2018 myself and Richard sat down again and if you know Richard he is a very hard man to say no to and I haven’t looked back since and I am now in a dream job.

I am a keen home brewer, although I haven’t done much in the way of Beer of recently, I do love making our own wine and especially like Love Brewing’s Superior wine brand (Sauvignon Blanc) and have recently just opened at Selection Wine that I had left for just over a year which is going down a treat. I also enjoy Botanical Gin making and one of the best most rewarding aspects of my job Is teaching our ever so popular Gin Making Masterclasses.

I am very much a family orientated man with 4 wonderful children and understanding wife (anyone who knows a home brewer knows there partners are very understanding, mainly because they get to drink the end products). I enjoy most sports, films and love to cook.

Ian Halliday

Commercial Director

Ian is responsible for the development and maintenance of our website and back office systems, allowing us to maintain the high level of customer service that we are famous for, and more importantly, making sure you receive your favourite homebrew products quickly and easily!

Graduating from the University of Dundee in 2006 with a degree in Innovative Product Design, Ian focused on applying his creativity and I.T. skills to an emerging eCommerce industry, at a time when buying products online was still a novel experience.

Ian has been with Love Brewing since 2007 when he started as a Freelance Consultant creating a new website for the business.

With the success of that first website, Ian became a full-time member of staff and immersed himself in the business, learning as much as possible about homebrew and eCommerce.

Ian has enjoyed being part of the company’s growth from its beginnings as Wineworks and has helped rebrand and transform the company to what it is today.

He is more likely to be found testing out a new piece of software to improve our systems than brewing these days, but he is a huge fan of our Beerworks Presidents Sierra American Pale Ale.

Ian is a keen runner and outdoor climber and enjoys visiting the gritstone crags in the Peak District. He also likes to spend his free time on days out with his young family.
