What to look for in a Cross Beam Press

Check List of Features

You probably will only buy a press once so here is a list of features you should look for.

Cross Beam Press

  • How does the top of the press swing away? This is really important for two reasons. The first is it must move away to allow you to place a crusher on the top without it restricting the operator. Secondly when it comes back to start the pressing the locking mechanism needs to be incredibly strong and secure as the pressure that is applied when pressing is enormous. Cheap copies will just not take this pressure.
  • What is the base plate and pressing plate made off? All parts on ours are Stainless/Aluminium where appropriate and will not corrode with the acidity of the fruit. This is particularly relevant with apples as they are very acidic. They will eat any paint and steel. Are they also strong enough to withstand the pressure? This is enormous.
  • How does the spindle go through the Cross Beam? Ours goes through a pre inserted block of hard steel. Cheaper ones will just sheer.
  • Are the wooden sides of the press made from Evaporated Beech Wood? Other wood will swell after pressing and cleaning. The other styles of Cross Beam have a Stainless mess basket (yes stainless is essential if it’s not wood) or Stainless Steel slats instead of the wood.
  • Is the base reinforced? Cheaper casts won’t last and take the pressure. They crack remarkably easily.
  • Is the basket completely separable? Our basket comes to bits in two complete halves making cleaning much easier.
  • Do the feet (on the larger presses) come with pre drilled holes making it easy to fix the location?
  • What guarantee do you get? Our Cross Beam Presses come with a 5 year guarantee. These should last you a life time if looked after properly.
  • Out Italian manufacturer has been producing these presses for over 50 years and they are still made in the traditional way but incorporating modern techniques. They like us have a reputation to uphold of quality and customer satisfaction.
