Don't sit there for hours on end cutting up your apples with a knife before putting them into a press. Yes, it can be fun for a while but if you have a sizable load of apples to chop up it can become very tedious.

The answer to this problem is to use the 'Small Stainless Manual Crusher'. A good quality crusher that will see you through many seasons of apple picking. It's probably worth looking at the video called 'An Introduction To Fruit Crushers'  by our very own Richard Blackwell, to see how it looks and learn more. Whilst you're at it there are other videos on the Love Brewing video channel related to making cider which may interest you.

If you prefer to read we also have quite a few guides for you to take a look at. You can check them out here!

Using Your Apples and Pears to Make Cider

With the Cider Season nearly upon us it's just the right time to start thinking about the process of making cider and what you'll need to do to get the best results.

If you're new to cider making, we have many guides and video's (see below) that will help you to get started. While you still have the time you'll probably find it worth your while to go through some of them so that you can make an informed decision of what equipment you'll need. In fact, we have some very nice bundles set up on our website which are ideal for beginners because they include everything you'll need by way of equipment and consumables (except the fruit) to get you started in cider production.

Remember it's not all about apples! Over recent years the pear ciders have become popular and produce a very tasty alternative to the traditional apple cider. Naturally, if you're growing both apples and pears you can combine the fruits.

If you haven't got fruit trees, all is not lost, you could still have a go at cider making using a kit. We've developed over the last few years a great range of ciders kits. These are also available as 'starter packs', giving you all the necessary bits and pieces you need to get you started making your own cider using kits. See more details here.

Thank you Bill for sending us this useful information about creating your own labels for bottles:

"Just a tip for your customers who want to make their own labels …..

* I use “Label Planet” blank adhesive laser/inkjet labels, from Amazon, generally the “Photo Gloss” as the rendition is superb, easy to apply and come off easy after bottle finished and soaked.

* These are also excellent value compared to Avery, and perfect size.

* I tend to use the 99.1x67.1 mm labels for normal half or full size bottles, and the 63.5x38.1 mm labels for small (e.g. <200ml) bottles

* The larger labels are £18.24 for 200 labels (so 11p each) and the small labels work out at £7.95 for 105 labels (7.5p ea).

* See https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AWP0ZH6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you’ve ever watched the brilliant series “Breaking Bad” on Netflix, then you’ll appreciate the “Heisenberg” tag!!

A very small selection of my finished labels ….

Best Regards …. Bill"
